Why John Daly is wearing a Masters logo at the Open Championship

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland — John Daly had an eclectic mix of logos on his gray pullover in the very first spherical of the Open Championship: Trump on his proper sleeve, Ohio-based mostly Wentz Financial Group on his right chest, California-based Mark Christopher Vehicle Middle on his still left upper body.

There was a person other emblem, much too, emblazoned just above the automobile center brand: that of the Masters Tournament.

Sure, that Masters Tournament.

This was curious for a pair of good reasons: (1) Daly hasn’t performed in a Masters since 2006 he does journey to Augusta for the duration of Masters week, but only to hawk goods in the Hooters parking lot on Washington Road, and (2) Augusta National, you may well have heard, isn’t large on endorsement promotions.

So, what provides? There’s a simple explanation.

“I acquired this at Augusta,” Daly advised Golf.com following his opening 73 on the Aged Training course. “I really do not have a grey one, so I brought it over right here with me.”

A grey best for the Outdated Gray Toon.

Daly stated Sun Mountain, the golf apparel and bag manufacturer, normally delivers him with his outerwear, but his most up-to-date buy hadn’t arrived in advance of he left for Scotland.

“They’re likely to make me some far more,” he stated. “I’m just waiting on it.”

In the meantime, his Masters-themed pullover — albeit at the Open Championship — has been serving as a good substitute.

“I like it,” he said with a snicker. “It’s comfy.”

Daly is not the initially big winner to don a Masters-branded brand in levels of competition. At the very first LIV Golfing occasion, in London, very last thirty day period, Phil Mickelson wore a black Masters vest on the 1st tee, ahead of a couple of holes later on swapping it out for a non-logoed edition.

Mickelson’s style statement was presumed to be some type of non-verbal protest in opposition to the PGA Tour.

And Daly’s? He was just trying to continue to be warm.
