Prepaid auto booth closed down; encroachers occupy auto stand

PUNE Namisha Choudhary and her household, including senior citizens, had been left with no possibility but to consider an autorickshaw from Pune railway station that billed ₹300 fare to take them to their Yerawada spot on Tuesday.

The Choudharys had to shell out only ₹80- ₹100 if they experienced frequented the pay as you go automobile rickshaw booth at the station premises. The booth facility has been closed down since many days.

“The automobile motorists waiting around at the station premises desire substantial fares as they know that prepaid automobile booth is shut and we have to depend on them. Authorities should really restart the facility at the earliest to verify fleecing of hapless passengers,” claimed Namisha.

Pune targeted traffic police along with the railway administration experienced restarted prepaid vehicle booth in September 2021. A similar facility was launched at the station in 2019 in advance of the Covid outbreak.

In the meantime, the place on the station premises focused for autorickshaws is encroached by beggars and anti-social components, posing risk to travellers who use the stretch.

Manoj Jhawar, Pune railway division spokesperson said, “The autorickshaw stand premises is routinely monitored and cleaned. RPF policemen make normal rounds to continue to keep the location safe and sound for travellers.”
