FREMONT — A driver and passenger endured serious but non-lifetime-threatening accidents following their automobile hit a control and catapulted above the State Street Bridge into the Sandusky River early Sunday early morning.
Interim Law enforcement Main Derek Wensinger explained Monday there were rates pending in the incident, which transpired at 2:19 a.m. Sunday.
Wensinger mentioned Kendrick D. Smith, 48, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Impala around the bridge when it strike a curb, released in excess of the city’s flood wall and landed upside down in 3 to four toes of h2o in the river.
Smith was outlined as a resident of Laurel, Mississippi, but Wensinger said he believes the driver lives in Fremont.
The law enforcement chief explained Johnny R. Gavin, 42, of Fremont was a passenger in the vehicle.
“They are both equally likely to make it,” Wensinger stated, describing the men’s accidents as nonlife-threatening.
Wensinger said equally guys ended up responsive and conversing to police just after they were rescued from the river.
He mentioned the incident is however under investigation, with liquor a suspected variable in the crash.
Fishermen along the Sandusky River alerted crisis responders by 911 calls, Wensinger claimed.
A crane was utilized to get rid of the Impala from the river.
In addition to Fremont Law enforcement, the Fremont Hearth Office, Sandusky County EMS, Ballville Township Fire Department and LifeFlight responded to the crash.
Wensinger reported the Fremont Fire and Ballville Township Hearth river rescue groups ended up on the scene.
