One particular university athlete was killed and two some others have been harm when a vehicle collided with a team of cross region runners in Virginia.
It took place Thursday, March 31, and included scholar athletes from Milligan University in northeast Tennessee, according to a release from Milligan University.
“We are incredibly stunned and saddened to share that members of our men’s cross country/observe & industry staff have been in an incident involving a car or truck this evening,” the college explained in a release.
The crew was in Williamsburg, Virginia, to compete in the 56th Once-a-year Colonial Relays at William & Mary college, officers stated. The competition is hosted by the William & Mary men’s track and discipline workforce.
Cramer, 20, was a company administration important from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, according to a site for the men’s track and field workforce.
Mortimore, 23, was hospitalized with a damaged leg and dislocated shoulder. He is a ministry significant from Lexington, Kentucky.
Baldy, 21, is a mechanical engineering major from Knoxville, Tennessee, the college reports. Aspects of his accidents were not launched.
The 3 ended up managing on Williamsburg Pottery Road with a fourth member of the team and a coach when they had been struck, officers stated.
“The driver fled the scene of the crash and was positioned soon afterwards when he crashed into a median,” the university claimed in a release. “He was taken into custody, and in accordance to law enforcement, was charged with DUI maiming and felony hit-and-operate. The investigation is ongoing.”
Courses at Milligan have been suspended April 1 “in gentle of the incredible reduction,” university officers said.
Cramer’s athletic achievements at Milligan incorporated “being the third finisher on the 2021 countrywide championship cross place team, (and) he was a two-time All-American and two-time All-AAC for cross place.”
“He also established a program record in the 8k,” school officials mentioned.
The college “is a Christ-centered liberal arts college” with a 355-acre campus and more than “100 majors, minors and other diploma offerings,” according to its web page.
“The following several days and coming months will deliver a great deal of emotion and heartache for Cramer’s teammates, close friends, family and our total neighborhood,” College student Government President Chase McGlamery said in a launch.
“I also inquire that you continue on to lift seniors Alex Mortimer and Eli Baldy up in prayer as they and their family members start to recover and make perception of what has happened.”
